What is SSPE?

In a child with measles infection, changes in the structure of the virus, called M protein (M), glycoprotein (F) and hemagglutinin (H) occur after a long period of time in the structure of the virus that settles in the central nervous system. As a result of these changes in the structure of the virus, the brain tissue begins to replicate by synthesizing proteins. The cells of the nervous system ,called neurons, then multiply in their nuclei (nucleus), and then in their appendages called axons and dendrites. The proliferating virus destroys the neurons, resulting in clinical manifestations. As the number of destroyed neurons increases, the disease progresses. The treatment of SSPE uses interferon, which reduces the proliferation of the virus, and isoprinosin, which regulates the immune system, in addition to support (symptomatic) treatments for reducing the symptoms. there is no definitive data on how effective interferon and isoprinosine are. But it is said to have a stalling effect on progress in some patients. Rubeola (rubeola) is an enveloped RNA virus from the family Paramyxoviridae. In other words, there is a gene called RNA inside and an envelope consisting of a lipid layer outside. On the surface of the envelope are protrusions formed by hemagglutinin (H) and Fusion (F) glycoproteins. The H protein on the surface allows the patient to hold onto their cells, while the F protein allows them to enter the cell.

  • Although ozone is used in all viral diseases, especially in infections caused by viruses with enveloped structure (rubella is also enveloped virus), it is used successfully alone or with other treatments. Since ozone breaks down the lipid structure of the envelope, the structure of the virus is broken down and the disease-making property is lost.
